Vintage Glass Decanter Pitcher with Pinwheel Design and Applied Handle
This is a stunning old decanter made of clear glass with an applied handle. It has a very nice design with a large pinwheel on either side. The handle is decorated with depressions in graduating sizes. The estate this came from sold it as being Waterford but I have been unable to identify the pattern. It has a nicely designed, solid glass stopper and both the inside of the neck and the base of the stopper are very faintly acid etched for a nice fit. The bottom has a 16 point starburst design. I believe this is considered cut glass but it is not sharply defined. The estate this came from sold it as being Waterford but I have been unable to identify the pattern and I find no marks on the bottom indicating the maker. I have used this to serve wine......it's nice to look at but it is not a good piece for serving unless you like wine dribbles on your tablecloth!
It measures about 12 ½” tall with the stopper and about 10 ¼” to the top of the handle. The base measures about 4” in diameter at the bottom flaring outward to about 5 ¼” at about 1” high. It is in nice condition but has a major flaw. There is a fracture in the glass that begins about 1” from the top edge and runs down the neck, around the bottom edge of the handle. Overall the crack is about 5 ½” long. I have noted it in the last two photos. This is being sold as a nice decorator piece that should not be used for actual decanting.
