This funky looking black woman in a cotton dress is an old bell that was sold as a souvenir of New Orleans. The tin bell with a wood handle is the body. The mammy’s head and arms are made of black yarn and her eyes and mouth are circles of paper that have been glued onto the yarn. She has a large bandana that matches her dress and she’s also wearing a pinafore apron that ties in the back. Lightly stamped on the front of the apron is; New Orleans. Attached to the bell is what appears to be an original paper price tag of $4.95. I believe that she is from the 1950’s or 1960’s.
She measures about 5 ¾” tall and is in good condition with minimal wear and no damage. The clothes may be slightly faded and yellowed from age. The bell which measures about 1 7/8” in diameter clangs just fine.
