This old pencil holder is a souvenir of the Crest House atop Mt. Evans Colorado. The bullet pencil appears to have a coated paper or celluloid sleeve over the metal case that holds the wood pencil. The case has a line drawing of the architectural building that was envisioned as a “castle in the sky”. The traveler’s restaurant and rest area even had emergency oxygen since its altitude is 14260 feet as shown on the pencil. The cap of the bullet contains the pencil which pulls off and then reverses and slips into the hole it came out of. On the other end is the eraser. The metal appears to be nickeled brass.
It measures about 4” long in the “concealed” position. The case is in nice condition with minimal wear, however the pencil is short from use and the original eraser is hard and unusable.
