Vintage Celluloid, Cloth & Composition Boy Doll - What a Face! What a Grin!
This old doll has one of those faces that only a mother could love. The head is celluloid with molded and painted facial features and molded hair. It is stitched to the cloth body. The back of his head is marked with an entwined SA or AS. The body is hard stuffed cloth with jointed arms and legs. The hands and forearms are painted composition and the shoes are fabric, sewn to the legs. It comes with flannel pants and a flannel shirt with ribbed edges. I don’t know that the clothes are original but I believe they are period and appropriate for the doll. Although I have not been able to identify the maker, I think this is probably from the 1930’s - 1940’s. The hat is being included just because it’s kind of fun.
The doll measures about 10 ¼” tall and is in fair to good condition. The creases of the face mostly seem to be part of the expression but there are one or two dents that probably aren’t like the one on his chin. There are a few extra holes at the back of his neck by the mark. I think these were from the clothes being pinned on. The hands are crude but in tact and the clothes are soiled and faded.
The pictures are not shown at actual size. Please refer to the description for actual measurements.
