This old toy is a lot of fun for amazing young children as well as adults. One side of the colorful tin base reads; My Name is Rex The Reckoning Dog - I Can Do Your Sums Up To 20. The other sides of the base have a hobo clown doing tricks with his dog. The white plastic terrier-like dog is Rex. As you wind the toy you note the changing number on the bottom. Next you ask Rex a question to which the answer will be the number you have noted on the bottom. Turn the lever on and Rex will nod his head the predetermined number of times, thus answering the questions. The instructions for the Answer Hound states this little dog is; A threat to Univac. On the bottom is a foiled label that reads; Copyright Shackman NY - Germany. The instructions show B. Shackman & Co. of N.Y. to be the Exclusive Distributors. The base measures about 2 3/16” square and overall it’s about 4 ¼” high to the top of the dog’s head. It is in very good, working condition with minimal wear. The seam down the back of the dog is open slightly but cannot break open as it is attached to the base and apparently was never any tighter than it is now.
The box measures about 2 5/8” by 2 ½” by 4 5/16” and is very colorful with cute pictures of a little puppy doing tricks as if in circus. There are two different pictures shown twice on the opposing sides of the box. It is marked HK 574 on the flap ends and it is also marked; Made in Western Germany. The box is in fairly nice condition with some wear, especially on the flap ends including some small tears. There is some tape residue on the box as well. The instructions are creased and have torn edges.
The pictures are not shown at actual size. Please refer to the description for actual measurements.
