This metal key and decorative fob are from the renowned Hotel Mark Hopkins on Nob Hill in San Francisco. This old room key is stamped with the room number 210 and it was made by Lockwood. The tag, which appears to be brass, is an interesting perspective of the hotel which housed the Top of the Mark restaurant on the 19th floor. On the reverse side it reads; Hotel Mark Hopkins - San Francisco - Return Postage Guaranteed. Although it wasn’t intended to be taken, I would imagine someone took this as a souvenir of a momentous stay at the hotel. I believe this is from the 1950’s or 1960’s.
The tag portion measures about 2” by 1 3/8” and is in fairly good condition. It may have had a darker patina but it has either been gently cleaned or just worn off. It is not shiny from being buffed but it does appear cleaned of its original patina.
The pictures are not shown at actual size. Please refer to the description for actual measurements.
