This small purse is made of metal mesh, basically round jump rings that are linked together. The links are attached to a nicely detailed metal frame that has a crossover clasp. It has a chain handle which is attached to one side of the frame at one end and the other side of the frame on the end. Across the bottom of the purse there are three diamond shaped dangles that are stamped; Germany. The metal is magnetic with a brass colored plating that has a dark patina. Purses of this sort were sometimes part of a chatelaine and they are often sold as accessories for a French fashion dolls. They are also used as a small evening coin or mad money purse. I believe it is from the late 1800’s or early 1900’s.
The purse portion measures about 2 3/8” wide at widest part of the frame and about 3 ½” from the clasp to the bottom, excluding the little dangle. The overall length with the chain extended down to the dangle is about 7”. It is in basically good condition. There appear to be no missing links and the clasp works well. It is possible that this originally had a silver plating but now, as previously stated, it has a weak brass plating that is dark and discolored where the plating is gone. I have not tried to clean or polish this and will leave that decision to the next owner.
