This old hat is really nice but what is even better is to have a photograph of the little boy that originally owned the hat! It is made of a grayish green straw, woven into a geometric design and is formed into a classic fedora shape. It has a sewn on, patterned fabric band accented with a few feathers for that dapper look. The brim is stitched about every 1/8” to ¼” all the way around and is turned up in the back. Inside, the crown is reinforced with grosgrain ribbon and grosgrain ribbon headband has a stiffener behind it. There is no makers label or other identification but it does come with a picture of a young boy dressed in a sport jacket, bow tie and this hat. He’s a very proud looking lad and must have felt all grown up with this ensemble. On the back of the picture is his age; 5 yrs. 9 ½ mos.. I think this is from the 1940’s.
The opening measures about 5 7/8” across and 6 7/8” front to back or about 19 ¼” in circumference. The outer edge of the brim measures about 9” front to back and 8 3/8” across and it measures about 4” high off the table, at the front. It is in very good condition with very minimal wear. The photo is a 2 ¼” by 3 ¼”.
The pictures are not shown at actual size. Please refer to the description for actual measurements.
