Vintage, Reddy Kilowatt Advertising Display - Glows in the Dark
This old advertising piece features Reddy Kilowatt, the mascot for many electric companies. This version of Reddy Kilowatt with the larger, more round head began being used in the 1950's. His lightening bolt body is made of a translucent red plastic or Lucite. His head, hands and feet are made of a type of plastic that, after being exposed to light, glow an eerie, pale green in the dark. A business card can be placed in his right hand with the extended finger. On one side his feet read; M.R. and the Registered mark and on the other side it has; REDDY KILOWATT. The base is a molded black bakelite in the shape of a duplex outlet. On the bottom it reads; REDDY KILOWATT with the Registered mark and M.R.. There is also a picture of Reddy Kilowatt and - MCMLXI REDDY KILOWATT, Inc. which dates this to 1961.It would make a fun desk accessory for holding a business card.
Assembled, it measures about 5 ¾” tall and the base measures about 2” by 2 3/8”. It is in very good condition with minimal wear and no damage. The painted features are still crisp and it does still glow in the dark.
The pictures are not shown at actual size. Please refer to the description for actual measurements.
