This old, glass root beer mug is oversized with a lid and pump for dispensing root beer syrup. This is an item that would have been found in an old soda fountain's back bar to advertise the syrup company, in this case Rochester. The root beer would have been made with the syrup from the dispenser and soda water. The clear glass mug has 1/2" vertical panels on the inside and is also detailed with a group of horizontal rings toward the top edge and toward the bottom edge on the outside. Between the rings it is etched; Rochester Root Beer on one side only. The handle is molded on and the bottom has a recessed star pattern. The lid is nickeled brass with the initials JHS stamped in the top. There is a plunger in the center and a raised spout to one side. The pump mechanism is attached to the lid and is made of brass and cast aluminum. Into the top portion of the cast aluminum it is stamped Pat. Pend. and then a company name and then St. Louis. Unfortunately I have been unable to make out the company. The glass has bubbles and mold creases from manufacturing.
Overall it measures about 13 3/4 " tall to the top of the plunger and is in good condition with minimal wear. There is a "bruise" to the glass on the back toward the bottom edge as shown in the photos. The nickel on the lid is in pretty good original condition with a minimal amount of dark speckling and a very small amount of brass showing through. The mug measures about 5 3/4" in diameter excluding the handle. Email for more photos.
