This old fan is made of paper which has a painted floral design on one side and the Singer logo on the other. This is an early trademark with a red “S” and a woman seated at a sewing machine. The outer slats of the fan appear to be made of bamboo and the inner slats are a very thin, soft wood. They are held together at the bottom with painted nut and screw. I can’t find a mark but I would imagine that it was made in Japan.
It measures about 15”across when opened and 8 3/8” in length when closed. It is in fair condition with age wear. It has some edge wear and some small tears on the top edge of a few creases and a couple of larger tears on the folded areas. There is also some light soiling and discoloration, especially on the back side. The end of one piece of bamboo has a split and the bottom ends of a few slats are broken.
