I believe this old dish was probably considered a covered sugar bowl. It is in the Gay Plaid pattern by William Blair who worked for Purinton Pottery but had likely already left them when he did this pattern. The round container has a twisted handle and a lid that appears to have a leaf for the knob. It is decorated with a free style, green and brown plaid with a cream ground and I believe it was produced in the 1940’s and 1950’s. On the bottom it is marked; Blair - decorated by hand.
The bowl measures about 3 5/8” in diameter with the handle extending another 2 ¼” further. With the lid on it measures about and about 3 1/2” high. The base is in very good condition with minimal wear and no damage. The lid has two stress cracks, opposing one another, that would appear to be in the manufacturing but the one is obvious from the top side. The inside edge of the rim of the lid also has a chip which I have tried to show in the pictures.
The pictures are not shown at actual size. Please refer to the description for actual measurements.
