This old glass piece is the base or stand for the Zephyr American Swivodex Inkwell. The inkwell was made by the Zephyr American Corp. of New York in the 1940’s and was quite popular for it’s deco design. It came in several colors and color combinations. This base is generally referred to as ivory custard and looks especially striking with the black glass ball inkwell. This is the base only….not the complete inkwell. It could also be used for holding other items such as old Bakelite pool balls or perhaps a very large marble (both shown, neither included). Very, very faintly in the bottom of the bowl you can make out part of the Swivodex name.
It measures about 4 3/8” in diameter and about 1 ½” high and roughly accepts something about 2” - 2 1/8” in diameter. It is in good condition with minimal wear and no damage.
The pictures are not shown at actual size. Please refer to the description for actual measurements.
