This is an interesting, old razor called the Stahly Live Blade. The body of the razor appears to be made of metal and Bakelite or other plastic. Part of the metal has a maroon finish and part has a brass colored plating. When the bottom portion of the body is turned, it winds a motor inside that causes the blade head to vibrate! The brass colored head can be screwed off to change the double edged blade. The side of the head reads; Made in U.S.A. The back side of the head has patents which date this to 1936 but there is also a notation that reads; Other Pat. Nos. on Package. The razor measures about 3 5/8” long and is very nice condition with minimal wear. It does vibrate when wound but is a little sluggish and needs a little tap to jump start it. No blades included.
The razor comes in its original wood box with the Live Blade decal on the front. There is a label inside the box that has a series of patent dates, the last one dating this to 1943. The box has two pieces with a spring mechanism latch on one side. These were almost a mystery to use. You were suppose to pull the top portion of the lid forward before lifting the lid off. If you didn’t know this ahead of time you would probably force the lid and splinter the wood. Of the three that I have owned over 30 years, all have had the wood broken just as this one is. It still closes but there is a sliver of wood that is missing along the side and inside. The box measures about 4 ½” long by 2” wide and 1 ½” thick. The box has scuff and scratch wear to the finish and as previously noted, it has the splintered wood damage.
The razor is in working condition but is an old item and not guaranteed for use.
