This is an old, Evening in Paris compact. The body of the compact is made of wood and the top of the lid has a stylized image of a man and woman. The compartment inside has a mesh insert over the face powder and there is a powder puff pad with a textured cardboard gasket that reads; Evening in Paris. The remaining powder is perfumed. The inside of the hinged lid has a mirror with a small, beveled edge. In the corner above the powder the wood is stamped; Pat.Pend. Other than the mirror, the case, even the hinge pins, is entirely made of wood which leads me to believe this was made in the 1940’s, during the war when the use of metal was limited.
It measures 2 ¾” wide by 3” long by ¾” thick and is in very good condition with minimal wear to the case. There is only a little amount of powder left and the applicator puff has been used. The silver on the mirror has a small amount crazing and is slightly cloudy but is not cracked or broken.
