This is a fun, knit or crocheted hat that a young boy would have worn in the winters of the early 1940's. Just above the bill of the old hat is a painted design of a boy playing ice hockey. It would appear that it is made of wool, mostly reddish brown with the front panel and bill being white trimmed in green. I has a chin strap with a snap closure. According to the original paper tag it could be worn two ways; turned up or turned down - to suit the weather - smart and sensible. There is also an original label sewn inside that reads; Pedigree Sportswear - It's a Glacier, along with a Patent number dating this to about 1941.
Lying flat it measures about 8" across, just above the bill. It is in nice condition in that it was probably never worn, however it does have some moth holes. There are a couple on the front white portion near the crown but most of the damage is on the underneath side of the bill. The original paper tag is in fairly nice condition with creases and the hole at the top is torn through so it has been pinned on.
