This is an old badge that would have been worn on the cap of a taxi driver. This is more elaborate than most chauffeurs badges that typically don't have much more than a number and location. The shield appears to be made of nickel plated brass with black enameling. The shape is rather deco in design with vertical panels at the bottom and a wing like design at the top. It reads; Green Cab Co. and has the number "2872" at the bottom. The car across the top appears to be a mid 1930’s vintage sedan. The badge is slightly curved to fit snuggly on a cap. On the back there is a threaded post with a knurled nut to tighten it down into the cap fabric. This was made by the Fifth Avenue Company of Chicago.
It measures about 2 ½” in length and 2 3/8” at the widest. It is in very nice condition with light wear and discoloration to the plating so the base metal shows through. This is primarily on the raised areas of the car like the door and fender detail.
