Old, Horse Shoe Brand - No.1 Gem Wringer
This vintage, miniature, wringer is a lingerie or child’s wringer meant for doll clothes and small articles of clothing. Although some dealers call this a salesman's sample it is really a fine example of a small scale clothes wringer for your small laundry needs. The wringer was completely operable “just like mommy’s” and a little girl could have fun washing her little doll clothes. This wringer has cast iron parts, rubber rollers, two large tension springs, wooden slats and a cast handle with a wooden knob. On top slat reads; Horse Shoe Brand. The lower slat reads; American Wringer Company - New York. In one corner it shows it’s a No.1 Gem model and the other corner has the AWCo. Trade Mark logo. The wringer attaches to a wash tub by the thumbscrew clamps and the handle screws off for convenience just like the full size wringers.
It measures about 7” across the wood slats and about 14 ¾” overall including handle. The rollers are 5” long. It measures about 6 ½” from the top wing nut to the bottom of the clamp and 4 ¼” from front to back at the deepest point. The rollers are hard and crazed from age but not damaged. They do have flat spots but the crank still operates the rollers. The wood slat are in very good, original condition with distinctive lettering. Most of the metal parts look as though they may have been lightly zinc plated and still retain some of the silver color. There is a minimal amount of rust.
