Old, Juicy Fruit Gum, Advertising, Wall Match Safe
This vintage piece of advertising was used as a match safe to hold wood matches. It is made which is colorfully lithographed. I bears the slogan; The Man Juicy Fruit Made Famous. The back plate has an image of William Wrigley Jr. with a gum package below him. The receptacle that would hold the matches has the last words of the slogan across the front with a textured surface for striking the matches on the bottom section. The sides reads; Whitens the Teeth and Perfumes the Breath. The back plate is a heavier gauge tin than the piece attached to the front which is held on by six metal tabs. It was made by The Meek & Beach Co. of Coshocton, Ohio in the very early 1900’s.
It measures about 3 3/8” by 4 7/8” and is in mostly, very nice condition. The back plate is in very good condition with bright color, good gloss and minimal wear. The attached tray is in lesser condition. The paint is a thinner, weaker paint which is slightly dull and shows some scratch wear. The light gauge tin has creases and dents and surface rust. The paint on the back shows light wear and discoloration
