C. 1940 Metal Advertising Sotheby's Sign

We found this at a small antique show in Lincoln, UK from a dealer who purchased part of the contents of very popular Italian business with locations around the UK. The Sotheby's sign was one of the items in his find. Sotheby's is an auction house founded in 1744, London. It expanded to other countries starting with New York in 1955, then Hong Kong, India, France and China. It's also the oldest company on the New York Stock Exchange. In about 1940, Sotheby's changed their logo and signage, meaning that this was one of the earlier style the company used. The font on the sign is 2.75 inches high.

It's made of iron cut into a rectangular shape attached to a wood mantle at the top. Dimension: wood mantle is 3.5 high x33 inches wide The metal section of the sign is 19 inches high x 27 inches wide.

Traveling to England has come to an end for us. Talking with fellow dealer we have also been told that there and very English few dealers . All my items hav been cut to the lowest prices and most all are below our cost. Thank you for your interest
