Scottish Tartanware Photo Album, Stuart Clan, C. 1883-1884

This is a great ‘find’. This Stuart tartanware photo album has 78 photos in this album. Checking the backs of some of the portraits I have found that the majority of photos date to 1883-1884. On the underside of the album there are mother-of-pearl beads set to protect the tartan cover when sitting on a table.

This album is secured with a brass-strap-clamp. This tartan clan design is of the ‘Stuart’ clan.

The spine of the book has some wear. There are some tears to a few of the empty ‘frames’ mainly due to aging. This album may be of one extended family. Tartanware boxes and book covers were heavily varnished, explaining why the photo album cover is in such good condition.
