George VI Commemorative Oak Desk Top Writing Box

This is a very rare commemorative box. It is an English oak desk top writing box. It commemorates the coronation of George VI to Elizabeth on the 12th of May, 1937.

The box has ornate carvings and date to the front with linenfold carvings to the sides. There are three carvings on the front of the box commemorating the coronation. On the left is the crown above the letter CR, indicating the coronation of the king (R=Rex), and the date, May 12; in the center is the face of King George VI; and on the right is the crown above the letter R for the king (Rex), and the year, 1937.

Linenfold is used to imitate folded linen on wood panels.

The box opens and you see that it is fitted with the original Waterman's fountain pen and Waterman's ink bottle. The inside has the separate painted pieces with a stunning red with four compartments, two of which has lids with brass knob heads. The pen holder raises and lowers to sit in a pen tray.

We've never had a commemorative box of this calibre.
