A 'Soldiers Dream', Staffordshire 10 inch Flat Back Figurine
This figurine is of a Scottish solider asleep, and seated cross legged. His right hand is resting on his lap and his left elbow resting on a drum. His left hand is resting on his head and there is a flag to his left with a cannon by his feet.
This is a hand painted figurine with gold gilt. The hat would have feathers (plums) and the tunic would be blue. The clan scarf is draped over his shoulder and this pattern is also copied on the kilt.
The flags over his head, the long socks and outline of the canon would also have bright added colors.
This figure has been identified as being produced only in three different sizes. Condition: general crazing from the heat of the kiln and one small nick to the oval base. C.1875
