English Sterling Silver Creamer, Mappin & Webb, 1915
This is a lovely English Sterling silver creamer, hallmarked Sheffield, 1915, and made by Mappin & Web. It is also marked with the number Rd 632278.
The Mappin silver company, Sheffield, England has a long history, dating back to 1810 when an engraving company was founded by Joseph Mappin. During the rest of the 19th century the company was managed by sons of Joseph Mappin. In 1912, the company was merged with Webb Ltd. In 1963 the company merged with British Silverware Ltd, and now its is a subsidiary of Sears Holding Ltd.
Mappin & Webb are considered among the famous silversmiths, including the likes of Tiffany, Gorham, Elkington, Reed & Barton, etc.
This creamer is 3 3/4 inches tall from base to spout, 1 3/4 inches in diameter at the base, and 4 inches wide, handle to tip of spout.
The creamer is clearly hallmarked on the outside top of the creamer, and under the base.
