Victorian Oil Painting of an English Gentleman, Burled Maple & Gold Gilt Frame
This is a very nice portrait of an English Gentleman, James Warrell, who was a treasured Sunday School Teacher at Chenies for 60 years. The remembrance card on the back of the frame indicates that he passed on June 7th, 1891.
The frame is beautiful. The outer frame is a burl maple, while the inner frame is gold gilt. There are some pieces missing from the burn maple at the bottom of the frame.
The quality of the painting is outstanding. The dark and light shading are well done, as are the shadows. Mr. Warrell's hand and face are painted beautifully. The clothing emphases the period of the late Victorian era and especially Mr. Warrell's work as a Sunday School Teacher.
Measurements: Frame: 13 3/4 inches W, 14 3/4 inches H, 1 1/2 inches D; Painting: 8 3/4 inches W, 9 5/8 inches H.
