English Fern Ware Booklet. C. 1850-1900
This is an English Fern Ware note keeping/ daily reminder ’book’. The fern ware book measures 3 1/2 inches long, 2 1/4 inches wide and sits 1/2 inch high.
This book could be carried and used daily. The original pencil is stored and held on to the book by loops on the side. The opposite side of the booklet has a green binding that helped to expand this small booklet to add additional pages.
This wonderful English Victorian Fern Ware booklet may have been owned by a seamstress as the marks on the inside with measurements are for different clients. The inside pages of the covers are permanently attached where notes could be written and appointments listed for the week. The inside booklet has a red silk front and back cover with the extra paper . The only error I have found is a bit of wear to the silk lining and the green velvet binding to the spine, which has faded in time and shows wear.
This is an excellent item to be added to a collection. The Fern Ware ‘craze’ was very popular from the 1850-1900.
