Tole Painted Metal Ballot Box, London Borough Elections
This an English tole painted box used to carry ballots from one location to another. Ballots would have been put into this box for secure transport to another station. Although there is no lock here, you can see that there is a pull down lever which can be locked into place. On the front of the box are the stenciled words in yellow "London Borough Elections." On the lid are the stenciled words "Postal Votes."
The box measures 13 inches wide, 11 inches deep, and 14 3/4 inches high. The lid lifts revealing a very clean interior. There are two handles for ease in lifting the box. The paint on the box is in very good condition. The patina is rich with browns and blacks. This English tole ware box could be used and displayed.
