Antique English Country Copper Farm Milk Can Jug
This is a beautiful English country copper farm milk can/ jug purchased at a fair at an antiques show in England. The milk jug is in very good condition. The milk jug has three marks, including the number 25 engraved the side of the lid , three raised numbers, 912, and then on the side of the handle, the marks A 2 and the letters K & K inside an oval. Although we might think the number 25 is the volume of liquid that would fill this can, the actual volume is more in the order of ten gallons.
The copper milk can has the original handle and lid, which opens. The outside of the milk can was fabricated to create a series of rounded "dents" (panels) that give the copper milk can a rich patina. There are least 15 of these series of panels around the circumference of the milk jug.
The milk jug stands 19 inches high (25 inches high with handle raised), 12 inches in diameter at the base, and 8 1/2 inches in diameter lid.
This is a beautiful early 20th century English country milk jug. It is a wonderful decorators item, and would look amazing in a cottage or farm house. The numbers on this large jug were used to identify the farm where the milk was from and the dairy and where the jug should be returned to..
