English Sarcophagus-Shaped Mahogany Tea Caddy, c. 1860
This is beautiful English tea caddy which c. 1860's. The sarcophagus-shape tea caddy is made of mahogany. Metallic stringing forms a rectangular design on three sides and the lid of the caddy. Stringing is missing in two of the lengths on the lid. The mahogany wood is in very good condition with only having an m very small nick on the left side at the middle of the base. At the top of the sarcophagus there is the carved design of a string of ridges around each side of the middle of the lid.
There are two compartments and a compartment for a glass bowl. The compartments contain a removable caddy, as shown in the photos. In the third is a period glass bowl. When we purchased the caddy, the glass bowl contained a silver plated spoon.
The caddy measures 13 inches wide, 7 inches deep, and 7 inches high. The caddy has four bun feet.
