Encyclopedie des Ouvrages de Dames, Hardcover, 1884, and Smaller Size Soft Bound of Same Book
We are offering two copies of Encyclopedie des Ouvranges de Dames. The first is a hardcover copy of the book (6 1/2 inches x 9 1/4 inches) is 766 pgs., plus 58 pages of resources including colorful plates of examples of knitting, embroidery and sewing. The second book is 626 pos. bound in hard paper. It measures 3 1/2 inches by 5 1/4 inches. Each book has a green front and back cover. The pages in each book are complete, and there are no rips or tears to the books. They've been well taken care of. Each book has hundreds of figures of examples of hand sewing, embroidery, tapestry, and knitting.
When the book was published (1184) there had been no publication containing a complete collection of known works such as needlework or lady's work with embroidery and knitting.
The author of the book, Therese de Dillmont (1846 - 1890) was an Austrian needleworker and writer. Her Enclyclopedie has been translated into 17 languages. She owned a string of shops in European capitals and is considered one of the most important pioneers in the international and multicultural work of hobby needlework.
This is a wonderful 2-book collection that was made possible as a gift from a very good friend.
