English Antique Burl Mahogany Ladies Jewelry Box, c. 1880
This is a beautiful and rich burl mahogany English jewelry box . The mahogany is in wonderful condition with a rich patina shows the swirls of the burl part of the tree. The box has brass escutcheons on the lid and at the key hole. There is no key for the box.
The inside of the box is lined with a blue green satin fabric with pockets at two of the corners to hold bottles. The fabric is thick and would be used like a pin cushion, and for protection of precious jewelry. A strap or band runs the height of the underside of the lid for pining and holding items.
The English jewelry box measures 12 3/4 inches at the width, 9 3/4 inches in depth, and 6 1/2 inches high.
This is a wonderful English box that could be used for jewelry, sewing, or a place to keep important letters, photographs.
