English Miniature Walnut Chest of Drawers
This is beautiful English miniature chest of drawers, with three drawers, brass handles, and working locks and key. The key is used on each drawer. Genevieve Cummins tells us "miniature furniture items are often called apprentice pieces, as they are thought to have been made as proof of prowess, or as a sample, or maybe just to be delightful (Antique Boxes, Inside and Out, 2006)." This miniature is a good example of the craftsmanship of the 19th century box and furniture maker.
The chest measures 12 1/2 inches wide at the base, 13 1/2 inches high and 7 inches high. The chest of drawers sits on a base that has three platforms. The drawers have two compartments formed with a separator. The separator for drawer two is missing.
The walnut is in very good condition. All sides of the chest are formed with walnut, even the back. A wonderful example of a miniature chest.
