English Walnut Writing Slope With Brass Corners and Straps
This is a lovely walnut writing slope with brass corners and brass straps. The top escutcheon is engraved with the letters SME, while the key hole escutcheon is blank. There is no key. The grain of the walnut is beautiful as seen in the photos and there are no repairs to the walnut at all. The brass shows typical user marks, but all of the corners and straps are in fine condition.
The writing slope opens to a large writing surface covered with embossed black leather. The slope is fully fitted with two glass ink bottles, each with brass screw caps. There are three secret drawers hidden behind a sprung panel.
The box measures 13 7/8 inches in length, 9 5/16 inches wide, and 6 inches high.
This is a beautiful example of high quality 19th century English writing slopes. It shows wonderfully.
