Antique Mahogany Humidor with Lined Galvanized Metal Interior
This is an interesting Victorian humidor that is made of mahogany wood. The box is unusually large and sits on a raised base. Corinthian style columns are carved at each corner, has a plant motif carved on to the front panel of the box. The outside of the box measures 16 inches wide, 10 3/8 inches deep, and 7 1/2 inches high. The humidor is heavy, weighing in at 12 pounds. The wood is in good condition with normal user marks, and nick on the left side.
The box opens revealing a galvanized (zinc over steel) metal lined inner compartment with a metal lift up lid. There are white areas on the metal, which are areas in which wetted lava type rock was placed to control the humidity in the box. which stains made when pumice rock the zinc creating the white powder.
The humidor compartment is 12 3/4 inches wide, 7 inches long, and 5 1/2 inches deep. Big enough for any cigar.
An unusual box from the Victorian Era which would be a great decorator piece.
