Early Victorian Amboyna Writer's Box, Lap Desk, Slope: Mother of Pearl & Stringing Inlay
This a fine quality amboyna writing slope inlaid with mother -of pearl foliate pattern and fine metal stringing. Mother-of-pearl vacant cartouche, and mother-of-pearl escutcheon with working key and lock. The inside of writing slope is fully fitted having original leather skiver with ruler and inks. Note the ruler which fits into between the inks and the skiver. The ink bottles are glass with brass screw off lids which are in fine condition.
The writing slope is in outstanding condition. The amboyna has a beautiful patina. Amboyna is the burl of this very large deciduous from South East Asia. Amboyna can be finely sliced and used as the veneer of beautiful boxes and furniture. The slope measures 14 3/4 inches wide, 10 1/8 inches deep, and 5 1/4 inches high.
