Late Victorian Burr Mahogany Letter Box
This is a beautiful Victorian burr walnut letter or correspondence box. The box has two slots each of which sits over a separate compartment under the lid. Normally two slots might have there for "answered" and "unanswered" letters. The outside of the box is made of a beautiful burr mahogany timber. The box has a curved lid, and is wonderfully shaped. The burr mahogany is in good condition, although there are wear marks on the edges of the box.
The italicized word "letters" is cut into a 3 inch length of brass and is fastened to the lid of the box.
Opening the box reveals a wonderful interior of two compartments separated by thin divider that can be lifted out. The lining of the box is a very delicate wood painted a cream color. There is a key hole and lock, but we do not have the key. Measurements: 8 13/16 inches wide, 5 inches deep, 4 3/4 inches high.
A lovely letter or correspondence box that could be used, or would be a wonderful piece for your desk.
