Large 2-Gallon Copper Ale Harvest/Haystack Jug with Custom and Excise Stamp
This 2-Gallon Copper Jug is beautiful--stunning and very large. The jug is 14 inches tall, and 11 1/2 inches wide at the base. The jug can hold 2 gallons of water or ale, or any liquid. The jug can be used.
There is a circular seal inside the rim of the jug and is the local officials, and in this case during the reign of Queen Victoria. The seal has the initials V R (Victoria Rex---Queen Victoria). c.1850. Additionally on the seal are two other initials, "G" above the initials VR, and the number 6 below these initials. these would be the local inspector's reference numbers.
The size of the jug is also stamped on the side of the jug (2 gallon in this case), and is visible halfway down beneath the spout with Beautiful lettering.
The jug is lined, and will hold water---no leaks. The handle of the jug is riveted to the jug with copper rivets. The handle is strong and sturdy. There are few dings here and there, but they do not detract from this beautiful copper haystack jug.
