Print of Hand Colored Mezzotint of the Cottage Door by George Keating & Francis Wheatley
This is a beautifully framed print hand colored by George Keating (1762-1842) & Francis Wheatley (1747-1801). This is a mezzotint which is a print made from engraved copper or steel plate and was used for the reproduction of paintings. Keating and Wheatley names are on the bottom corners of the print, and there is a trademark seal on the bottom right hand corner of the print.
The print is in very good condition, no rips or tears. It is framed in a wonderful oak frame painted brown, set within a golden inner frame. The frame measures 14 3/4 x 17 3/4 inches. The print measures 11 1/4 x 14 1/4 and is covered with glass. Please note: that at one time someone removed the back of this print from the frame and reattached the print to the board with duck tape. This happened before we bought this wonderful print and we have not attempted to remove the picture.
