English Oak Document Crafts Box
This a wonderful English oak box with brass fixtures that might have been used to store document. A floral motifs brass escutcheon on the lid has a brass handle. The lock mechanism in brass is in good order, with the key. The locking mechanism was replaced a long time ago. Looking down on the lid, the outline of part of the original lock is visible just above the brass piece at the edge, and beneath it on the front of the box.
The box measures 10 3/4 inches wide by 6 1/4 inches deep by 4 1/2 inches tall. Note that the lid is slightly curved upward, but this does not hinder locking the box.
This is a lovely antique oak box.
