THE PRIDE OF THE VILLAGE, English Staffordshire Transferware Child's Plate 1840
This is a charming English child’s plate that has a gentle 12-sided rim and the transfer done in a light gray, titled: THE PRIDE OF THE VILLAGE. The center scene is that of a young maiden with a basket on one arm. The makers mark is very difficult to read and was impressed into the underside of this small 5 1/4 inches in diameter plate. The plate has hand painted applied to the light gray transfer and the job seems to have been done in haste. Other than general crazing to this 1840s plate, there are no chips, cracks or repairs.
