English 'Aide Memoire' C. late 1900's
A charming English ‘aide memoire’ decorated in a chase relief on each side. Measurements: 2 3/4 inches long, 1 3/4 inches wide including the attached pencil and is 1/4 inches wide. The front of this English ‘note pad’ has the face of four angels done in as chase-relief with the Scottish Thistle on the top of the folded case. On the backside of this ‘aide memoire’ there is the raised design of the ‘Scottish Thistle’ surrounding the open space where initials would be placed. This is the space where there is a rubbed area where one can see the brass lightly showing through. The side pencil is original and does contain some lead. It looks as if one page of has been use and removed from the holder. There are approximately 30 blank pages left to use. This is a lovely English note pad from a very different era and could be worn on a chain or ribbon.
