Letters by John Hughes, ESQ by John Duncombe, 3 Volumes, 1773, The Second Edition
These are three leather bound volumes containing Letters by Several Eminent Persons Deceased, Including the Correspondence of John Hughes, ESQ., author of the Siege of Damascus. The "Letters" was edited by John Duncombe, one of the Six Preachers in Christ Church, Canterbury. The books are The Second Edition, with Additions.
The books are bound in full leather. On the spines are five raised bands with gold tooling and black and red text blocks. The red text block is missing on Vol. 1. These very old books show wear on the spine, corners, and the top edge of the covers. However, the hinges or joints are in acceptable condition; the books can be opened and read very nicely. There is some foxing and browning on the first few pages, but otherwise, the texts are intact, and clean.
The books measure 7 7/8 inches high and 4 3/4 inches wide.
A wonderful set of 18th Century books.
