Eliza Cook's Journal, in Four Volumes, 1849 - 1851, London by John Owen Clarke Publishers
Eliza Cook was a British author, and proponent of political freedom for women, and in the education of women in British schools. She wrote regularly for magazines including the Weekly Dispatch, the Metropolitan Magazine, and the New Monthly Magazine. From 1849 - 1854 she published the Eliza Cook's Journal, which was a weekly periodical. I have in these four volumes all of her weekly periodicals from 1849 - 1851.
The Journal is published in 1/4 leather with marbleized boards. The bound volumes have black leather with gold tooling on the spines. Each spine has four raised edges and geometric tooling from top to bottom. There is wear to the edges of the spine, and some rubbing of the marbleized boards. The books have marbleized end pages. There is a bit of foxing on the end pages, and on further pages in the text, but the text blocks are clean and very readable. I found a bit of tear on the first marbleized end page, and a rip here and there, but not a great concern.
