Polychrome English Staffordshire Three Piece Handleless Cup, Saucer and Jug, C. 1840
A lovely three piece set of English Staffordshire ware with a handleless cup and saucer and jug /creamer. The pattern has only been marked on one of the pieces ‘FLORA’. There are 18 different potters listed as having produced this pattern.
Measurements: Saucer, 6 inches in diameter and sits 1 1/4 inches high. Handleless Cup, 3 inches high, 3 1/4 inches in diameter and there is a moulded 'decagon' form on the outside of the cup that does not carry though to the inside of the cup. I think that this design would make it easier for the one holding the cup.
The cream jug is 5 3/4 inches from the base to the tip of the handle and is 5 inches from spout rim to handle tip. This cream jug has the octagon molded shape.
Each of these pieces has the beautiful mulberry transfer with polychrome color added after the final glazing. The items all have a pearlware glaze and other than kiln crazing, they are in wonderful condition with NO chips, nicks or cracks. The added hand colors are yellow, green and red. Because of the wear I am guessing that this was kept in a cupboard for years
