The Life of Samuel Johnson by James Boswell, 1887
This is the Life of Samuel Johnson in six volumes published in 1887, Oxford, at the Clarendon Press and written by Mmes Boswell. This the third edition of this famous work.
The books are bound in a beautiful green leather spines with gold lettering and tooling, and green cloth boards. There is wear, especially at the tops of the spines. The spines are firm, and in good order. There are marks on the leather, but all in all, the books are in good form. There is minor foxing on the end pages, but otherwise the text blocks are in very good condition. They are all are clean, and intact, and free of any rips or tears. Each volume has more than 400 pages. Volume VI includes, notes, complete index, a concordance of Johnson's sayings.
The books measure 6 1/4 inches x 9 /14 inches.
This is a wonderful biography. Some have said that this is the best biography every written, indeed some considering Boswell's Life of Johnson, the most famous single work of biographical art in the whole of literature (Wikipedia).
