Mauchline Ware Souvenir Bank, Orleans, N.C. France, 19th Century
A lovely 19th century Mauchline Ware Bank with the center transfer of a `Vue Generale Orleans'. (General view of Orleans, North Central France). This small bank would have been hand crafted in Scotland and sent to this town to sell as a souvenir.
The wood bank, made for the lovely Sycamore wood, is 3 1/2" long 2 1/2" wide and sits 2" high with the slightly domed lid. The only wear that I could find is a missing tiny nail on the underside where the owner may have been trying to open the bank. The slot for the money is on the front of the box and blends in on the carved out line. A wonderful gift or addition to a collection.
