Will "Tom" Tarrer (American December 3, 1927 - July 14, 2013) was the quintessential folk artist. He was born in Chatfield, Texas and served in the U. S. Army, since his love of country was complete and unsullied. In 1995, Tarrer began painting with acrylics on poster board. His subject matter includes western scenes, historical events, humorous subjects, and memories from his youth.He was a self-taught artist. His art was featured in several prominent folk art shows, most recently in “Spirited Journeys: Self-taught Artists of the Twentieth Century." He was also featured in "Self-Taught Artist of 20th Century".
This is an unusual offering of two pieces by the same gifted folk artist. Many times Tom would carve pieces to match the painting. The painting shows the British troops in their famous red coats, and the carving is of a single British soldier. This is a fine example of folk art by a gifted artist. It also shows his sense of humor. He was a simple very nice man.
When he passed away. I purchased his entire remaining carvings and paintings. and will be listing them a few at a time. They are extremely affordable, and I believe have very nice potential for appreciation.
