This is one of a number of trinket boxes that I bought about twenty years ago from Alexander Zacke. Mr. Zacke and his wife Suzanne were well-known Austrian antique dealers many years ago. He went on to found an International Auction house named Auctionata.
I have copied his wording verbatim as to the history and description.
" This decorative lidded silver box comes from the collection of a Shan princess and portrays a lovely swan. he beautifully crafted animal is standing on both feet and has inlaid ruby eyes. It boasts neatly incised chase work in imitation of stylized feathers with incorporated ornaments and it has its neck strongly bent with its head elevated. The superb craftsmanship and the inlaid ruby eyes make this piece a precious work of art."
(That might be a bit of puffery on Mr. Zacke's part, but it is a very interesting and unusual piece.)
