This 1978 Bridgeton Studio “Spider” paperweight was created by Chris Buzzini during his years at the New Jersey studio. This piece was created by gathering a small gather of clear glass (certainly not optical quality) and then laying on a “spider web of opaque purple glass. Another layer of clear glass and then another layer of spider webbing followed by another layer of clear glass. On the third layer of clear using the torchwork technique, the spider was applied. Of note is that the tips of the eight spider legs are at right angles to the rest of the leg, giving the appearance that the spider is “tip-toeing over the web. This was created by placing small dots of glass at the tip of each leg and then poking the center of the black glass dot toward the layer beneath. Then finally another layer of clear before being shaped into the finished form. Very nice effect when the piece is placed on a light stand.
IMPORTANT; The above description was written to me by Chris Buzzini. We had developed a friendship, albeit long distance, and he gave me the first opportunity to buy items from his personal collection when he gave up his art. We have his one of a kind dagger listed (that he had been inspired by either a Tiffany or Cartier dagger his had seen); as well as some very unique pieces I have yet to list. He had included a personal letter stating this was from his personal collection but in moving it has been mislaid. I will give my Certificate of Authenticity as to the weight, artist and its provenance from his personal collection.
Size: The piece is 2-3/4” in diameter and 2-1/2” tall,.
