This excellent Japanese Cloisonné Vase dates to the Meiji Period. The slender shape with a short neck and flared rim, decorated in copper wire with a single writhing dragon on a black ground, base marked chu or tada.
Country of Origin: Japan.
Medium: Cloisonne decorated with copper wire.
Size: 6 inches tall..
Condition: Shallow chip to reverse of dragon under the shoulder; light surface scratches to same area on reverse side; wear to silver wash. The chip is hard to see when in hand. The colors and the dragon present very well.
Provenance: This is one of a number of antique Japanese items that I purchased from a private collector. They have all been authenticated by the prestigious gallery Doyle Galleries; and all were shipped from Doyle Galleries.
