MEIJI PERIOD Japanese Cloisonné Vase - image 1 of 11

This excellent Japanese Cloisonné Vase dates to the Meiji Period. The slender shape with a short neck and flared rim, decorated in copper wire with a single writhing dragon on a black ground, base marked chu or tada.

Country of Origin: Japan.

Medium: Cloisonne decorated with copper wire.

Size: 6 inches tall..

Condition: Shallow chip to reverse of dragon under the shoulder; light surface scratches to same area on reverse side; wear to silver wash. The chip is hard to see when in hand. The colors and the dragon present very well.

Provenance: This is one of a number of antique Japanese items that I purchased from a private collector. They have all been authenticated by the prestigious gallery Doyle Galleries; and all were shipped from Doyle Galleries.
